LAPLANTE – Roberta Eugenia “Bertie” LaPlante, 98, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2018. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph D. LaPlante for 64 years. She was born June 9, 1919 to Robert E. and Edith (Smith Peasley) Stedman in the Bakerville section of New Hartford. At an early age, she moved with her parents to land they purchased on Old Steele/Stedman Road and there lived out her life as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.

“Bertie” was known to all for her pleasant, helpful nature. She loved to cook and entertain there was always room at her table for an unexpected guest. She and Joe grew bountiful gardens and from spring to fall she was busy harvesting and preserving vegetables, berries and fruit. She was often employed as a housekeeper by local families, where her love of children, ability to cook and industrious ways were put to good use. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by a son, Daniel LaPlante and daughter-in-law Donna Nedelka LaPlante of New Hartford, daughter Jo-Anne Warriner of Florida and predeceased by her son-in-law Elwood Randolph Warriner; six grandchildren, Monica Clark, and Elwood Randolph Warriner II of Florida, Christine Aubin of New York, Jan Nedelka of New Hampshire, Dominick LaPlante of Torrington and Joshua LaPlante of New Hartford; seven Great Grand children, Elwood Randolph Warriner III, Jodi Warriner, Joseph Clark, Matthew Clark, Ryan Clark and Dustin Clark of Florida and Griffin Nedelka of New Hampshire; and two Great Great Grandchildren, Lillian Clark and Nathan Clark of Florida. She was predeceased by a sister Dorothy Peasley Lesieur and brothers Lyndon Peasley and Earl Stedman.

The family would like to recognize and thank the staff of the Meadowview Unit of Valerie Manor, for providing “Bertie” with loving care for these past three years. Friends may call on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford from 1 – 3 PM with a funeral service at 3 PM.
