WINSTED –

MANGIONE – Joseph “George” Mangione, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Sally “Pinky” (Crossman) Mangione for 53 years. Born January 28, 1932 in Winsted; the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Danca) Mangione.

He proudly served in the U. S. Air Force. George retired from SNET where he worked as a Central Office Repairman for many years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, #22 of Winchester. He was a huge sports fan who loved the Yankees and attended spring training every year in the month of March. He also enjoyed UCONN Women’s and Men’s Basketball. He and his wife were always seen at any ball game or sporting event for their grandchildren. They also enjoyed their special trips traveling to Italy and Sicily visiting family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lynn Brown and husband Garry of West Hartford, Lisa Brochu and husband Jerry of Winsted and Jody Mangione and wife Kim of Milford; brother-in-law, John Crossman and wife Maria of FL; and grandchildren, Alec, Austin and Ali Brochu and Caelese and Keleigh Brown. He was predeceased by his siblings, Michael Mangione, Jennie DiMartino, Salvatore Mangione and Mary “Mimi” Newman.

Friends may call on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 2 – 5 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Church, Winsted at 11 AM with full Military Honors. Burial will be held in the spring.
