Obituary for Marlene (Rosso) Dings

Marlene (Rosso) Dings, 78, of New Hartford died peacefully Saturday June 1, 2019 at Valerie Manor in Torrington, surrounded by loving family and dear friends, following a lengthy battle with kidney cancer. Her husband of 53 years, Donald Dings, predeceased her in January 2019.

Born October 19, 1940 and raised in Torrington, the daughter of Marchi and Olga (Laskovitch) Rosso, she was a 1958 graduate of Torrington High School.

Marlene met Don, the love of her life, at Sky Top Lanes in Torrington. They married in 1965 and moved to Bakerville in 1969. Over the years, she enjoyed bowling, following UCONN women’s basketball, casino gaming, walking on the beach and watching her children and grandchildren grow. Marlene retired in 2015 after 25 years at Big Y. She and Don also owned and operated the Bakerville Store from 1985 to 1990.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Dings Vogellus (Vincent); sons Francis Dings and Brian Dings (Vicki); grandson Brenden Dings, granddaughter Lexie Dings, two step-grandsons and a step-great-granddaughter, all of New Hartford; brother Robert Rosso (Rita) of Vermont; her Uncle Sam and Aunt Helen (Laskovitch) Vucelich and their families in Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Montano-Shea Funeral Home in New Hartford with burial immediately following at Village Cemetery.

Before her passing, Marlene conveyed thanks for all the love and support she received from her family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, she requested contributions be made to Bakerville Library, 6 Maple Hollow Rd, New Hartford, CT 06057; or to Hands of Grace, P.O. Box 145, 8 Wickett Street, Pine Meadow, CT 06061.

Marlene’s family wishes to thank VNA Northwest and Dr. Debra Brandt and the staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Torrington. Visit an online guestbook at
