Obituary for Dina Waker

Dina Waker, born Geraldine Vandermark on 12/8/24, was daughter of Edith Bowe Vandermark and Cornelius Vandermark passed away on May 3, 2019. She was predeceased by her brother, Cornelius Vandermark, Jr. She was a loving mother to all her children, Tim Waker, Bonnie Waker, Edie Poulin, Laurie Bianchi and Peter Waker. She had 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She grew up in Windsor, CT and moved to Hartford where she received a nursing degree from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. Dina and Ted were married in August of 1951, and they moved to New Hartford in September of 1953, where they made their home on Holcomb Hill Road. Dina worked at Hartford Hospital before she had children. After the children were born, she began working at Winsted Memorial Hospital as an RN, Community Coordinator, and head of the Volunteer Program. She also worked as a community reporter for local towns representing the Winsted Citizen, the Register Citizen and the Litchfield County Times, writing articles about local people and events. She had a deep passion for being involved in community services. She worked at CT OEMS in Waterbury, was a memberof New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance and a volunteer for Winsted Hospital Auxiliary. Dina and Ted enjoyed their years living in New Hartford and were especially thankful for all their friends who made their lives together so memorable. Dina loved her family deeply. She enjoyed being outdoors, working on the family farm, riding horses, swimming and skiing. Her children remember her for her love of music -as she would always be singing around the house. She had an infectious smile that everyone will remember her by. She was a kind, compassionate and always loving mother and wife and will be deeply missed by her devoted and loving husband Ted and all her family. A private memorial service will be held by her family. Montano-Shea Funeral Home in New Hartford has care of the arrangements. Visit an online guestbook at
